Fishing Trip - June 19, 2010
Jun 15, 2010 at 07:33 AM

Keith Thompson

The fishing off the East End of Deer Island is heating up along with the weather.  HOSSFly will be fishing the Deer Island this Saturday for those interested in being a part of the fun.  We will be putting in at the OSYC dock 0800 on 6/19 and returning through out the day.  We will be going across to fish the East tip and the stumps.  Please plan to attend this club fishing trip.  We will be ferrying fishers across to the island so bring a kayak or your wading shoes and plan to spend the day fishing.  There will be plenty of room for coolers, lawn chairs or other supplies.  We will have a portable gas grill set up for you to cook if you want to get just a bit beyond the cold sandwich regiment.  We need to take advantage of the time we have on the water and what better way to spend the day then fishing the local waters of Ocean Springs.  Make plans to attend and please let us know if you plan to attend this fun filled day on the water.

There's a huge oil spill in the Gulf and some of it will be coming ashore soon.  It's time to step up and help protect and heal this place we love so much.  Let's go HOSSFLY.

Fantastic Fly Sale at April Meeting
Mar 26, 2010 at 07:35 PM
You definitely do not want to miss the April 14 HOSSFLY meeting.  We'll be selling a huge assortment of hand-tied flies and fly boxes at bargain prices.  The flies were donated by Tom Herrington to raise money for a good cause - a small grant by HOSSFLY to support the exciting tarpon research being done by Jim Franks at the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory.

This is an excellent way to stock up on quality flies that are known to be good in local waters, save a lot of money, and help support the Mississippi tarpon fishery.  Regardless of what species you want to catch - trout to mackeral to cobia to tarpon - you'll find a fly to do the job.

This is a members-only offering.  If you're not a member this is a great time to join.  If you join and buy five or six flies, you'll recover your $15 dues in savings. Fly boxes will also be available.

Many of these boxes are doubles, stacked two deep.
Nearly 600 flies offered. Count 'em if you're bored.

All flies were tied by Tom Herrington
A detail of one box. Some great redfish flies here.
