Fellow HOSSFLYers:
For those who attended the HOSSFLY Poisson Gras tournament persevered through
difficult weather to a very nice conclusion. Not unexpectedly, Rod Fields won
the tournament due to his persistence in tough conditions. That's precisely
what makes great fisherman! Although we will certainly recognize Rod's
accomplishment at our meeting, the presentation of the Poisson Gras award will
occur at our January 2010 banquet.
Bob Effinger and
friends did a fine job of feeding us at the celebration at OSYC, at the
conclusion of the tournament. All of us owe Bob a debt of gratitude - the
things he does behind the scenes to make our outings successful are
enormous.
I have posted
another resource article on the web with Don's Help: "Mechanics of the Cast -
2009 Version". Believe it or not, how the FFF Casting Board of Governors view
these mechanics, changes or evolves over time. This discussion explains most of
the nuances, though you may have questions - please ask - there is always
more.
I am going to give
the talk at our meeting again this time (my last) on the Mechanics of the
Cast. Some of you may wonder why this didn't occur early on. Well, it did, in
the form useful for that period. As instructors we have learned that the "why"
of the cast is not as initially useful as the "how". We have spent the spring
and summer working on the "how" it feels to load the rod and make a good cast.
I'm sure, if you're like me, there have been frustrations in the learning curve
and times when you have run up against a plateau in your learning, from which it
can be a bit of a trick to get past. Only when you've had difficulties which
you have a problem analyzing and correcting, can further explanation of the cast
really help you. So, next Wednesday please have read the article on the web,
and be ready with any questions you may have. As last time the talk will not be
as detailed as the article.
We have a lot coming
up, so go to the calendar posted on the web to make sure you don't miss some
fine stuff!
