Tom Herrington has prepared an excellent summary on the threat Vibrio vulnificus infection in saltwater. Although the problem is rare, anyone who fishes in salt water on the Gulf Coast should be aware of the potential danger, particularly those who wade fish and handle fish or other marine life. It is also possible to contract the infection by eating raw seafood. Individuals with compromised liver or immune system function should be particularly careful.
